What is United Nations Nippon Foundation FellowshiP?

Phase One or UNNF Fellowship Training phase.
Take place in New york at United Nations Headquarters somewhere around mid-march to the month of June in 2025, it is a three month training with Division for Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea of the Office of Legal Affairs of the United Nations.
Phase Two or UNNF Fellowship Research phase
A 6 months research activity performed at Academic Host Institution that participate UNNF Fellowship Programmes, take place from July to December 2025. The AHI is selected based on its expertise in the Fellow’s field research.
Who can Join UNNF Fellowship; Eligibility and Criteria
- Age: Participants must be be between the ages of 25 and 40.
- Education: Must oossess at least a first university degree or equivalent in an accredited University.
- Ability: Must be able to demonstrate an ability to undertake advanced academic research and studies.
- Origin: Must be from a developing State – a sovereign state with a low standard of living,or a moderate to low Human Development Index (HDI), and an undeveloped industrial base.
- Be a mid-level government official or mid-level professional dealing directly with ocean affairs and/or the law of the sea such as:
- Implementation of UNCLOS and related instruments.
- Implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
